MIPEX cited by the District Court of The Hague

The District Court of The Hague has recently cited the European Website on Integration (EWSI), the Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX) and the National Integration Evaluation Mechanism (NIEM) in an interlocutory ruling in two proceedings concerning Syrian families who received international protection in Bulgaria.

As three projects in which MPG has played - and continues to play - a key role, MPG is proud to have provided data and evidence which is now being referenced in a court of law.

In doing so, it emphasises the trust and reliability placed in MPG's evidence-based research in the areas of migration, integration and anti-discrimination.

Quoting EWSI, the ruling outlines how MIPEX is an important integration evaluation tool used in Bulgaria.

Using the country’s ranking in MIPEX 2020 as a reference, it explains that the country guarantees migrants “equality only on paper”.

The ruling also mentions that NIEM was a commonly used tool in Bulgaria from 2016 to 2022.

The ruling refers to the NIEM results related to Bulgaria, specifically mentioning that it evaluated the effects of legislative and policy changes, provided evidence on gaps in integration policies and recognised promising practices in the country.
