Denmark is often portrayed as typical of the Nordic model of small, prosperous, ethnically homogeneous and socially egalitarian welfare state societies. In most regards there are indeed many similarities between Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark but in regards to cultural diversity the Danes stand out on a limb from their Nordic cousins. For example, the Migration Policy Index (MIPEX) considers all the Nordic countries as amongst the most favourable in the world on a number of criteria, with the exception of Denmark which lies much lower in the list.
